Recently, Finnish open-source video game developer Perttu Ahola discussed Minetest, his “longest ever project”, with Wikinews.

Started in October 2010, Minetest was an attempt by Ahola to create a sandbox game similar to Minecraft. Minecraft is a multi-platform commercial game, which was in alpha version when Ahola challenged himself to create something similar to it from scratch, he told Wikinews.

Minetest is an open-source game, which is free for anyone to download and play. It is written in the C++ programming language, and the source code is available on code-hosting site GitHub. According to Ahola, Minetest attempts to run on older hardware, with limited graphics, but to be accessible to more people: those who have outdated technology, and making it available for no cost. Minecraft, on the other hand, is a paid game, currently costing USD 26.95 for its computer version. Minecraft is currently owned by Microsoft, and performs poorly on older hardware.

A correspondent from French Wikinews contacted Perttu Ahola via Internet Relay Chat a few weeks ago, discussing Minecraft. This interview is built on top of the previous interview, as we take a deeper dive into knowing more about this free game which is about to turn ten years old in a few months.

Liverpool Crown Court jailed an ex-policeman who led a double life as a senior figure in a Preston, England drugs gang. Salim Razaq, described by his Assistant Chief Constable Andy Cooke of Lancashire Constabulary as “nothing short of a criminal in a police uniform”, received eleven-and-a-half years imprisonment on Tuesday after being caught during a ‘turf war’ with a rival gang.

The 33-year-old spoke to his brother over the phone while the latter was in jail on remand for kidnap and assault. Hafiz ‘The Enforcer’ ‘Big Haf’ Razaq was involved in hijacking Mohammed Begg’s BMW and abducting him. Begg, linked to the Fishwick gang, was tortured and beaten for three hours by Hafiz and other Deepdale gang members. Salim and Hafiz discussed money laundering and plans to intimidate witnesses in Hafiz’s trial. Other officers bugged the calls, their suspicions aroused when Salim improperly used the force computer system to check on family members and associates.

It cannot be exaggerated that the guns you knowingly had in your possession were three sub machine guns with many rounds of live ammunition

Lancashire Police’s Professional Standards Department then raided Salim’s home in Walton-le-Dale, near Preston, and found £72,000 in laundered cash hidden in the police sergeant’s bedroom. Three machine guns — two Uzis and a Sten — were concealed under the stairs. 228 bullets, a bullet-proof jacket, a balaclava, and a knuckle-duster were also confiscated.

Last month he entered guilty pleas to two counts of perverting the course of justice, three counts of possession of a firearm, possession of ammunition, conspiracy to transfer criminal property, conspiracy to acquire or retain criminal property and misconduct in a public office. The conspiracies referred to money laundering; the misconduct was for abusing the police database.

Salim joined the police in 2001 and served as a traffic cop patrolling motorways, before his promotion to sergeant in January last year. He was dismissed in June when the force convened a Special Case Hearing to fast-track the process.

Salim and Hafiz’s mother Gulshan admitted perverting the course of justice; her role was to intimidate witnesses. Hafiz entered guilty pleas to money laundering and two counts of perverting the course of justice. Two more gang members — Jason Lawrenson and Daniel Cookson — admitted money laundering, and another man, Louis Bamber, admitted possession of a firearm.

Gulshan was given a 44-week sentence suspended for two years and Hafiz received three-and-a-half years, this in addition to a six-year sentence for the attack on Begg. It was this attack that initiated the war, with a Deepdale member being shot in the throat in retaliation.

In sentencing Salim Judge Henry Globe QC said “The offending took place over an extended period of time. It amounts to a breach of trust, a dereliction of duty and it amounts to extremely serious and persistent criminal offending whilst ostensibly, supposedly upholding criminal justice in your capacity as a serving police officer. Your actions have brought potential discredit to the police force. It would have made the tasks of other officers more difficult. In particular, I make reference to the gravity of your offending in relation to the firearms offences.

“It cannot be exaggerated that the guns you knowingly had in your possession were three sub machine guns with many rounds of live ammunition to be used with them. There was no conceivable, lawful or justifiable purpose that anyone could have had to have them in their possession.”

If you call one of these companies and ask them where they acquire trucking fleet serviced they will probably tell you. If it\’s a good large company odds are that this shop they use is going to be good enough for ones truck repairs too.

When you find a shop you like ask to arrange a credit account and make sure you pay your account on time all the time. Truck repairs can be costly and when you purchase a bad month for business combined with an engine mount needing replacement or other challenging job you intend to make sure your truck repair shop credit is in excellent standing.

Because after you tackle about the expense that you need to take in getting your truck repaired, it definitely involves money. For this kind of reason, you must never allow an untrained individual vehicle your truck. Choosing an avowed mechanic is still the best and wisest approach. This expert mechanic is sure to assess the repair and rectify it.

Mobile answer trucks are great and say a lot about a truck repair center if they have a number of these units. It is especially useful for those who have credit with a truck shop that has a mobile service. You may get a boost for your truck, battery replacements immediately, unlock frozen brakes, tire repairs in parking lots, and a multitude of other mobile services.

Every great truck repair shop has it\’s own towing assistance, and if they fix heavy trucks they should have a heavy tow truck for this too. Normally, if a shop allows parking on site for regular customers they will use their tow vehicle to pull your downed truck within their shop if need be. Just another advantage of having a shop you might trust for regular service of commercial trucks.

Whether you will be changing oil or detailing cars using a mobile car wash unit you have to consider this as a primary issue in running your brand-new company.

Precisely how are hazardous waste or even used Oil Waste issues handled?

Properly, a mobile oil change business or maybe a mobile automobile repair service has several ways in working with these eco-sensitive issues. It\’s best to have the local jobber that sells you the petroleum set that up to suit your needs and ask them approximately oil waste options. There are plenty of companies in the phone book probably in your area that will pick-up squander oil or better you can deliver it once per week to an oil-waste get back facility.

If your volume is heavy, then you must use a larger tank and thus if you will need a 1-ton truck or a 1-ton van mobile product, but remember that most of the older buildings in your area have parking structure maximum heights, which will not permit the ambulance suspension.

The amount of fresh oil stock you would like will be determined by the volume of oil changes and the amount of your business is repair and how much includes preventative maintenance such as oil changing. One must remember oil changes are not a high-profit or high-ticket product in auto-repair.

Wikinews reported previously on an Internet outage in New Zealand that lasted for over five hours. Telecom New Zealand, the company that owns and operates the “local loop”, said that they will review compensation for its customers on a case-by-case basis.

A wholesale ISP is attempting to give its subscribers compensation for the outage. CallPlus says that it is asking Telecom for the thousands of dollars it needs to pass on to its affected customers. They doubt Telecom will give them the money needed.

Meetings are underway at NATO headquarters in an attempt to reassure Russia that the missile defence plans pose no threat. The United States maintains the system is to protect against missiles from rogue states, whereas Russia sees the system as compromising its strategic interests in the region.

In today’s talks NATO allies encouraged the United States to make the planned anti-missile shield capable of covering all of Europe. They did this without committing themselves to joining the project.

Reaction to the proposed system in European states has been mixed.

Irrigation water to a substantial proportion of Australia’s farming regions could be cut due to drought conditions, Australian PM John Howard has warned.

Mr Howard’s comments concerned the Murray-Darling Basin, one of the largest systems in Australia. “If it doesn’t rain in sufficient volume over the next six to eight weeks, there will be no water allocations for irrigation purposes in the basin”, adding that the drought conditions could continue until May 2008.

He continued “It is a grim situation, and there is no point in pretending to Australia otherwise,” he said. “We must all hope and pray there is rain.”

Russia, in coordination with the government of the United States and Canada, is planning to build a tunnel from Russia to Alaska, Viktor Razbegin, deputy head of industrial research at the Russian Economy Ministry, told reporters in Moscow Wednesday.

The tunnel is budgeted to cost US$65 billion and would take 10 to 15 years to build. The tunnel is to provide train and automobile transport between Alaska and the Russian Far East, and to carry petroleum and natural gas pipelines, and high-voltage electrical cable.

The proposed tunnel is 64 miles long, or about 100 kilometers, in total, and is designed to link with two islands in the Bering Strait. The project is expected to have a very positive economic effect in the area.

Derek Brower, an energy market expert, called the project “absurd” and suggested the Russian government is playing political games to threaten its European customers to sign energy deals.

“I’ve never heard of this plan,” said Sergei Grigoryev, Vice President of oil pipeline monopoly Transneft.

“To be honest, anyone who look[s] at the map will realize that the project is too hard to implement,” an anonymous government source told Reuters.

Friday, March 10, 2006Japanese entrepreneur Daisuke “Dice-K” Enomoto, 34, is set to become the fourth private citizen in space. The Arlington, Virginia-based company “Space Adventures”, which specializes in spaceflight-related travel, announced on March 7 that Enomoto was approved by the Russian space agency as a flight candidate.

Enomoto has now passed the physical examinations necessary to be cleared for training, finished the medical preparation, and signed the contract for the flight. His training with the Russian Federal Space Agency will include physical and aeronautical preparation as well as Russian language instruction.

Enomoto will be the first Japanese person to fly to the International Space Station (ISS). His trip, to take place in a Soyuz TMA-9 rocket, is scheduled for September, with a ticket price of US$20 million.

United States entrepreneur Gregory Olsen returned from the ISS in October 2005; previous space vacationers were American Dennis Tito in 2001 and South African Mark Shuttleworth in 2002.

From March 15 to 17, the Canadian city of Toronto played host to the tenth Furnal Equinox, an annual event dedicated to the “furry fandom.” Wikinews attended. Programming ranged from music to gender, science to art, covering dozens of aspects of the varied subculture. The event’s featured guests were visual artists Moth Monarch and Cat-Monk Shiro, as well as the co-owners of US fursuit costume builders Don’t Hug Cacti.

The event raised nearly CDN$11,000 for Pet Patrol, a non-profit rescue organization in Kitchener-Waterloo, Ontario, run by volunteers. This exceeded their goal of $10,000, the funds needed to finish a rural sanctuary. The furry community is well-known for their charitable efforts. Along with direct donations, the funds were raised through a charity auction offering original artwork, and a fursuit design by guests of honour “Don’t Hug Cacti.” Last year, Furnal Equinox raised funds for a farm animal sanctuary.

While only 10–15% of people within the fandom own a fursuit according to a 2011 study, event organizers reported this year 908 of the 2240 attendees at Furnal Equinox brought at least one elaborate outfit to the event. The outfits are usually based on original characters, known as “fursonas”.

Guests of Honour Cherie and Sean O’Donnell, known within the community as “Lucky and Skuff Coyote”, held a session on fursuit construction on Saturday afternoon. The married couple are among the most prominent builders in the fandom, under the name Don’t Hug Cacti. The scale of their business was evident, as Sean had made over a thousand pairs of “handpaws”, costume gloves.

The couple encouraged attendees to continue developing their technique, sharing that all professional fursuit makers had developed different techniques. They felt that they learned more from failed projects than successful ones, citing the Chuck Jones quote that “every artist has thousands of bad drawings,” and that you have to work through them to achieve. Cherie, known as Lucky, recalled receiving a Sylvester the Cat plush toy from a Six Flags theme park at age 10. She promptly hollowed the toy out, turning it into a costume. Creating a costume isn’t without its hazards: the company uses 450°F (232°C) glue guns. They’re “like sticking your hand in an oven.”

Other programming included improv comedy, dances, life drawing of fursuiters, a review of scientific research by a research group at four universities called FurScience, a pin collector’s social, and workshops in writing.

The “Dealer’s Den” hall was expanded this year, with even more retailers and artists. While many offered “furry” versions of traditional products, at least one business focused on “pushing the boundaries of fursuit technology.” Along with 3D printing a bone-shaped name tag when Wikinews visited, Grivik was demonstrating miniature computer screens that could be used as “eyes” for a fursuit. The electronic displays projected an animation of eyes looking around, blinking occasionally. The maker has also developed “a way to install a camera inside suit heads, to improve fursuiter visibility.” He hopes the tech would reduce suiting risks and accidents. Without the need for eyeholes, fursuit makers would have “more options for building different eyestyles.”

The Benefits of Owning and Using RV Trailers

by

nationaldiscountcovers

There are numerous benefits that come from procuring, owning and using RV trailers. Of course, a certain time comes when we just want to go out, have fun, bond with the members of our family and friends while visiting nice place and undertaking sightseeing tour.

However, some people will opt to do all the above under the comfort and convenience of a hotel room. Anyway, even if you are in this category of persons, keep in mind that there are many more benefits to gain from using travel trailers that you will not get with hotel rooms, room service and bed and breakfast even with all the luxury they afford. For one, there is no greater way to undertake economy tours than to use RV trailers. This is because you can be certain that you will be a much lesser percentage of the total cost of your tour in recreational vehicle trailers in comparison to some of the other accommodation options that are at your ready disposal. With regard to this, you will be able to eat home cooked meals while touring other places. In the same way, you will enjoy the advantage of doing your own laundry for free in case your vehicle is in the line of travel trailers that are fitted with washing machines and dryers. Needless to say, it is also possible to spend as much time as you want in your travel trailer without fearing that every extra day adds to the expense of your vacation. Apart from the cost, remember that RV trailers are way more convenient than hotel rooms or bed and breakfast. This will come into play when you discover that you can do practically anything you want in your recreational vehicle. For instance, you can host as many people as possible in your travel trailer without fearing that someone will find out and add to your overall bill. Similarly, with travel trailers you do not have to leave your pet behind just because you are afraid that you will not be allowed to come with a pet into your hotel room. This is especially convenient for those of us who would not want to leave our dogs, cats or other pets with neighbors we do not know too well. Additional convenience arises when you discover that you will cook your own meals in travel trailers without having to order room service or go out to expensive restaurants for pretentious morsels of food. You can cook and eat anything you want in RV trailers. Actually, remember that this will cater for your special dietary needs while greatly reducing the cost that the same food would have cost you in a hotel or a pricey restaurant. To conclude, remember that there is a lot to gain from owning travel trailers. In fact, you can be certain that you only need very little money to afford vacations away from home. This is one of the greatest things about RV trailers. With regard to this, you can pack up groceries and supplies and set off on your vacation. You will also do anything you choose to make your vacation the ultimately memorable experience. 5th Wheel Covers

A Wikimedia project

We are a group of volunteers whose mission is to present reliable, unbiased, relevant and entertaining news. All content is released under a free license. By making our content perpetually available for free redistribution and use, we hope to contribute to a global digital commons. Wikinews stories are written from a neutral point of view to ensure fair and unbiased reporting.

Wikinews needs you! We want to create a diverse community of citizens from around the globe who collaborate to report on a wide variety of current events. To contribute to Wikinews reporting, read an Introduction to Wikinews and visit the Newsroom.

If you find Wikinews or its sister projects useful, please consider making a donation. Donations are used primarily for purchasing computer equipment and launching new projects.
